The government has published voluntary guidance to help organisations plan for the impacts of the net zero transition and changing climate on their operations.
The guidance gives practical advice, examples and material on good practice resources. It focuses on the Australian context.
The guidance builds on the Transition Plan Taskforce Transition Planning Cycle.
Visit the International Transition Planning Network website to view the Transition Planning Cycle.
Transition planning
Transition planning helps organisations identify and respond to climate-related risks and opportunities. It includes delivering on any climate ambitions.
When transition planning, organisations consider:
- the economy-wide net zero transition
- the increasing impacts of climate change.
Transition planning is an ongoing, internal process.
Each organisation can take a different approach and timing. It is often based on:
- its sector
- its value chain
- business size and complexity
- exposure to climate‑related risks and opportunities.
Consultation
Stakeholders asked for guidance in the consultation on the Sustainable Finance Strategy. Further consultation with government, industry and non‑government stakeholders helped develop the guidance.
The guidance delivers Priority 3 of the Sustainable Finance Roadmap.
