Banking sector competition

Attached are documents released under Freedom of Information relating to banking sector policy. Specifically, documents created between the start of September 2010 to 2 November 2010 that canvas possible policy options for boosting competition in the banking sector. This includes:

• advice to the Treasurer, his office or Senior Treasury Management on policy options for boosting competition among banks – including options for altering the powers of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in relation to banking
• analysis of proposals by the Shadow Treasurer, to boost competition in the banking sector.

Cabinet documents are outside the scope of this request and are generally exempt under the Freedom of Information Act.
