About the interim report

The interim report sets out 5 reforms to update the National Construction Code (NCC).

The reforms aim to make the NCC easier to use, support innovation and lower compliance costs.

The Australian Government is working with state and territory governments on these reforms. This work supports the government’s $43 billion housing plan.

Proposed reforms

The report lists 5 reform areas that came from public consultation. Most stakeholders agreed on the following changes:

  • make the NCC easier to access and use
  • support one national building market
  • use stronger cost and benefit checks
  • support new ideas and products
  • lower the cost of proving compliance.

Next steps

The government will continue consulting while it reviews these issues.

The final report will be released later this year.
