The Australia's Future Tax System Review Panel held public meetings from 16 to 26 March 2009 in all capital cities, as well as Wagga Wagga and Geelong, to capture the views and ideas of a wide cross-section of the community.

More than 500 people attended the meetings. Most of the issues raised related to personal taxes, the retirement income system, complexity, administration, or savings and investments.

The Review Panel commissioned Colmar Brunton Social Research to facilitate the public meetings and to prepare a report on the issues raised. A copy of the report can be accessed below.

The Review Panel also conducted focus groups in April 2009 to further explore some of the issues raised at the public meetings. The focus groups were structured to include a broad cross section of the community, particularly from groups who were not well represented at the public meetings, or during the consultation and submission process. A copy of this report can be accessed below.

The views expressed are the views of the authors, and of the individuals who attended the meetings. In publishing this research, the Review Panel is acknowledging that it considered the issues raised during the public meetings and the focus groups, along with views provided through other consultation activities, when forming its recommendations.
