The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) released its major digital platforms report of the Digital Platform Services Inquiry on 11 November 2022.

The report made significant regulatory recommendations to address competition and consumer harms, including:

  • economy-wide measures
  • measures to address scams, harmful apps, fake reviews and dispute resolution pathways on digital platforms, and
  • a new digital competition regime.

Treasury consulted on the recommendations between 20 December 2022 to 15 February 2023.

The government supports in‑principle the recommendations made by the ACCC and will undertake further work to implement its recommendations, including consulting on the development of a new ex‑ante digital competition regime.
