On 18 March 2021, the Senate Education and Employment Committee handed down its final report into the regulation of the relationship between car manufacturers and car dealers in Australia (formerly General Motors Holden Operations in Australia). The report made seven recommendations to the Australian Government.

On 2 September 2021, the Government tabled its formal response to the Senate Committee’s inquiry.

The Government Response recognises the importance of a strong and competitive automotive sector and notes it has been putting in place a comprehensive suite of reforms to benefit new car retailers in the automotive franchising sector.
