On 12 December 2013, the Senate referred the Reserve Bank Amendment (Australian Reconstruction and Development Board) (ARDB) Bill 2013 to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry.

The Committee tabled its final report on 31 March 2015. The report acknowledged the challenges facing rural businesses and communities and the importance of having a sound understanding of these challenges including more information on rural debt.

However, the lack of detail and confusion about how the ARDB would function in practice and the likely adverse consequences should it be established meant the committee could not support the passage of the bill.

On 10 August 2018, the Parliament tabled the Government response to these recommendations.
