Addressing housing and homelessness 

Housing and homelessness are important issues which affect many Australians. It requires a long-term and systemic effort across governments, business and non-government sectors, and the community.  

State and territory governments have primary responsibility for housing and homelessness. The Australian, state and territory governments are working towards a common goal to help more Australians access safe and affordable housing.

Homelessness Sector Development Round

This grant opportunity will offer $6 million over 3 years, starting in 2025. This funding will be available through 2 separate grant programs.

The first grant round opened for applications on 21 October 2025. It will provide $1.6 million (excluding GST) each year for 3 years. This funding is for peak homelessness organisations that support the national homelessness sector.

The grant’s goal is to help these organisations:

  • scale up research and develop policies
  • bring forward new ideas to support the homelessness sector
  • support the government’s national agenda for housing and homelessness
