Treasury provides competitive pay and superannuation entitlements, as well as comprehensive leave entitlements, flexible work arrangements, development opportunities and wellbeing initiatives.

For non-Senior Executive Service (SES) employees, employment conditions are set in the Treasury Enterprise Agreement 2024–2027.

For SES employees, employment conditions are outlined in individual determinations made under the Public Service Act 1999.

Working hours

  • Standard working week of 37.5 hours.
  • Ability to work hours flexibly within a 7 am–7 pm bandwidth.
  • Flextime for APS level staff to provide a level of flexibility to employees in their daily working patterns.
  • Paid overtime for APS level staff, with penalty rates ranging from time and a half to double time and a half.
  • Time off in lieu to compensate Executive Level staff required to work additional hours.

Pay and superannuation

Treasury offers competitive salaries and superannuation entitlements with:

  • annual pay rises (3.8% in March 2025, 3.4% in March 2026)
  • performance-based salary advancement and promotion opportunities
  • employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% on top of base salary.

Leave

  • 20 days annual leave each year, accrued daily.
  • Options to cash out annual leave.
  • Options to purchase leave or arrange sabbatical leave.
  • Christmas closedown period between Christmas Day and New Year's day.
  • 18 days of personal/carer's leave each year.
  • Up to 3 days paid cultural leave per calendar year for the purpose of attending significant religious or cultural obligations.
  • Up to 6 days paid leave over 2 calendar years for First Nations employees to participate in significant activities associated with their culture or to fulfill ceremonial obligations, and up to one day paid leave per calendar year to participate in NAIDOC week activities.
  • Parental leave:
    • Up to 2 years unpaid parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers.
    • Up to 18 weeks flexible paid parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers, available at full pay or half pay.
    • Paid and unpaid adoption and permanent foster care leave in line with parental leave provisions, and 5 days paid short term foster care leave.
    • Premature birth leave for both parents.
    • 1 week pregnancy loss leave for both parents and parental leave provisions for parents who experience a stillbirth.
  • Leave options for community or charity work.

Allowances

  • Temporary reassignment of duties allowance for employees who temporarily fill a role that is vacant for 2 or more working weeks.
  • Meal allowance when required to work overtime.
  • Workplace responsibility allowances for first aid officers, health and safety representatives, emergency wardens and harassment contact officers.
  • Restriction allowance for being ‘on call’ after hours.

Health, wellbeing and work life balance

  • $600 annual Lifestyle Contribution to assist in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  • Access to flexible working arrangements including part time, job sharing and home-based work arrangements, subject to operational requirements.
