Attached is a document released under a Freedom of Information request seeking documents relating to the GST threshold for low value imported goods.
Following the release of correspondence in relation to this FOI request the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA) have advised Treasury that in the document titled Question Time Brief GST on online overseas purchases it was stated that “ … the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA), are “ not in favour of reducing the threshold due to the significant compliance costs”.
Treasury has not been able to establish the source of this statement and the CBFCA has indicated that this has not been nor is this their position.
