On 24 April 2012, the Government announced it would provide income tax relief to ensure default members of superannuation funds are not adversely affected if their account balances are mandatorily transferred to another fund as a result of the MySuper reforms.

On 22 April 2013, the Government released an exposure draft of legislation and explanatory material for this measure.
