The Australian Government has released the exposure draft Program Directions for the Help to Buy scheme.

The Program Directions will sit alongside the Help to Buy legislation and will assist Housing Australia with the delivery of the scheme. The draft Program Directions contain details of the scheme, including the scheme’s eligibility criteria and obligations on participants.

The Australian Government welcomes feedback from stakeholders on the draft Program Directions and Explanatory Statement.

Help to Buy is a shared equity scheme which will support 40,000 Australian households to purchase a new or existing home with an equity contribution from the government.

Help to Buy will be administered by Housing Australia, and will be open to a maximum of 10,000 eligible Australian households each year over 4 years.

The scheme is intended to support Australians who otherwise would not be able to purchase a home.
