The Government proposes to amend the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Regulations 2001 to allow the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) to disclose information to the Energy Security Council (ESC), for the purpose of assisting the ESC in performing its functions.

The Government has established the ESC as part of the Clean Energy Future package to advise the Government on emerging risks to energy security and possible support measures to avert these risks.

The functions of the ESC are outlined in the Charter of the Energy Security Council.
